Introducing our newest Ambassador - Lara Hamilton. This talented young athlete already has an impressive collection of titles including 2017 Australian U20 Cross Country Champion, 2017 NSW U20 XC Champion, 2017 Australian U20 5000m 2nd place, 3rd Place 2017 Sydney Running Festival 10km, 3rd place Australian Uni Games 2017 5000m. We suggest you keep an eye on this one, and we are just so proud to have her on our team of Ambassadors. We caught up with Lara this week to find out what she is up to at the moment.

What are you training for?

At the moment my focus is on the Australian Summer track season 2017/18, which runs from November right through to March. My focus race is the State 5000m, in early December, and running a few 1500m races to work on my speed.  I also have my sights on the World University Cross Country Championships held in Switzerland in April next year, it'd be amazing to represent Australia in my second favourite country!

What does a training week look like for you?

I train 6 days a week, with one day of rest to let the body reset and recover to go again! I tend to cross train twice a week, for me this involves a lengthy pool session and a surf or yoga. I do two speed sessions a week, one on the track and one tempo run/hills session. This one is definitely my favourite, as it varies from week to week and there's always a new challenge. I do an easy mid week run and two long runs, around 90mins. I make sure to also do 2 strength specific sessions, to keep prepare my body for the physical stress and impact of running, and to assist in injury prevention. 

What has been your hardest training session to date?

Ah, a hard question, each training comes with its own challenges, mentally and physically. However recently I did a killer mixed session, it was 2x 850m efforts and 2x 1700m efforts around centennial park. It was then topped off by 4x200m hills. It felt amazing to finish, but I was exhausted for the rest of the day. 

What is your favourite running location?

I love to do my speed sessions in Centennial Park in Sydney, but my favourite place to just run would definitely be the trails in The Blue Mountains, just outside of Sydney.

What do you do to recover?

I take a rest day, get some solid sleep, manage any niggles by being proactive with appointments and make sure to eat a lot of good food. Australian Natural Protein is amazing for recovery. I love to mix it into my smoothies or in with oats. Before bed I always have a milk based drink to assist in muscle repair, and often I'll make it into a hot chocolate by adding ANPC Cocoa protein. It sounds odd, but it tastes amazing.

Tell us something about you that most people don't know?

I'm studying a Bachelor of Music Studies in Classical Voice as apart of my double degree at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. When I'm not running, I'm singing!
